Case study - Contract Packing


Our client was tasked with the design of a new point of sale stand to be placed near to tills at the stores of a large multi-national retailer.


Once the design of the stand had been proto typed. CM were then asked to supply a suitable packing design & cost for transport of the stands in to large distribution centres, & direct to stores.


The handling of the items was a key element due to the weight of the stands and the retailers health & safety policy with regard to this. A member of staff visited the retailers head office with the client & ran through our proposed pack & ensured that the retailer was happy with the suitability of the packaging and the protection provided, whilst also adhering to their policies on maximum weight handling. A subsequent visit to the distribution centre with a packed prototype was then made. Discussions with the distribution manager & a trial followed. The packing specification was the passed through the relevant departments. A trial of 15 UK stores then followed.


CM co-ordinated the logistics of the trial run & ensured all direct deliveries to store were were made against timed deliveries out of hours as required. Our client was then advised that the trial had been successful & a major roll-out to over 450 uk stores was to take place.


CM managed the logistics of the roll-out, from liasing with the manufacturers of the component parts, receiving, packing & subsequent onward delivery to the main distribution centre. All deadlines were met within budget.
